# AppointAuto

> AppointAuto is an appointment booking platform for independent auto service shops. It launches in California with smog check stations and tire shops, and the listed services also include wheel alignment and oil changes. Drivers compare listed prices and book a time. Shops that have joined AppointAuto take appointment requests online; other listed shops are booked by phone. There is no online payment: drivers pay at the shop.

Key facts:
- California charges a $8.25 state certificate fee for every vehicle that passes a smog check. Stations set their own test price.
- Listed prices on AppointAuto: regular smog check $49.75, STAR smog check $59.75, tire puncture repair $29.99, mount and balance four tires $80.00. Prices are estimates; the shop sets the final price.
- A driver needs a STAR station only if the DMV renewal notice says so.
- Station listings are compiled from public sources. Ratings and sponsored placements are not shown for shops that have not joined. Confirm a station's license on bar.ca.gov.
